Smart Grid-A power company’s smart grid uses digital technology to enable two-way communications between a power company and their customers. Think of it as a communication network – an energy Internet with virtually unlimited opportunities for sharing information. The smart grid improves the efficiency and reliability of our transmission and distribution systems. It allows energy efficiency programs to reduce demand, brings more distributed generation resources – rooftop solar panels, storage batteries, etc. – onto their grid and decreases carbon emissions.
