Toshiba G9000 UPS Series Awarded ENERGY STAR Qualification

Toshiba International Corporation, Houston, TX, April 8, 2013 – The Toshiba International Corporation (TIC) Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS) G9000 Series has received the ENERGY STARTM qualification under the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) new UPS category. The qualification includes every size of the G9000 product line, from 100-750 KVA.

ENERGY STAR is a federal initiative created by the EPA and the U.S. Department of Energy to help consumers identify quality products that meet strict energy-saving guidelines, as well as to protect the environment through energy-efficient products and practices. In meeting the energy efficiency requirements and passing the program’s testing, the entire G9000 product line has obtained ENERGY STAR certification by meeting criteria such as saving data centers money and increasing PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness).

Toshiba provides a full range of UPS solutions for business, IT, industrial, retail, healthcare and broadcasting applications. UPSs offer emergency backup power to protect vital electronic resources from today’s all-too-often blackouts, brownouts and power surges. Emergency backup energy is stored via batteries for all Toshiba UPS models (VLRA or flooded) and flywheel for some three-phase models. All Toshiba UPSs are true on-line, double conversion units, providing conditioned power during normal operation.

The Toshiba G9000 UPS is purpose-built from the ground up to allow for flexible, custom installations for data centers, co-locations, call centers, and financial institutions. Using Toshiba IGBT technology in the rectifier/converter, DC/DC chopper, and inverter sections, G9000’s double-conversion topology provides an AC/DC/AC efficiency of up to 97% at loads from 50% to 100%. Even at 20% loading, the efficiency remains greater than 95%. This industry-leading performance makes the G9000 the perfect solution for redundant parallel systems where loads are typically 25 to 40%. The advanced design of the G9000 significantly lowers operational expenses to operate a UPS, in comparison to traditional requirements.

“The Toshiba G9000 UPS has become the industry benchmark for efficiency and reliability among data center UPSs,” said Erik Monisera, Product Manager of the G9000 in Houston. “With the flat efficiency curve of the G9000, we were quite confident that it would pass even the EPA’s rigorous test criteria.”
